Both periods- Bring in your Outside Reading Notebook with your first entry transferred into it.

Period 1
If you haven't already turned in a typed introduction and a typed outline , you must do so. Then, begin your first. body paragraph
If you have turned in your introduction (Toya), write your 1st body paragraph

Period 3
1. Read the Commentary packet and take notes on it on a separate sheet of paper.
2. In the examples that are given, highlight the concrete details (CD).
3. Complete the diagram that was copied down in class by filling in your information for one of your body paragraphs. (TS) = Topic Sentence (CD)= Concrete Details (CM)= Commentary = opinion.
4. Write your second body paragraph and proofread your Intro and first body paragraph.

Complete the Thesis worksheets. Do the stapled one first and the single sheet second.

Period 3
Look up the definition of society and in a 3/4 page response explain what it means and consists of. What is society made up from? What makes a society? What are its different parts? Then give an example of each of its parts, as it relates to your life.

Type up your introduction paragraph. EMAIL IT TO ME BY 3RD PERIOD TOMORROW.
I may not be here tomorrow.

Complete the Timeline Project:
1. Construct a timeline that places the narratives in chronological order.
2. Include:
  • The name of explorer and natives that were involved in the narrative.
  • A significant fact about the reading.
  • You must add color and pictures to add interest to the project.
  • You will be asked to present them to the class.
  • You may work individually or in partners.

Extra Credit- add two of the other narratives that we have read and include all of the necessary facts.

Period 3

If you missed class, you must come and make up the vocab quiz.

3. Then, read the Literary Analysis column and do the Paired Activity at the bottom.
It says, "Imagine that he had decided to tell about one of his ordeals in a letter to his wife. Choose a brief passage from the selection to rewrite as a personal letter."

Create a table like the on p. 31 of your "World on Turtle's Back" packet (the one for 4 functions of creation myths) and put in the examples that you highlighted in your packet on Thursday night.
