Have you ever had the world nagging you or you just believe in God so much that nothing can bring you down? In the poems, "World, in hounding me" , by Sor Juana Cruz and " Burning of Our House July 10, 1666", by Anne Bradstreet, both authors felt miserable and joyful. Cruz felt miserable about the world. Bradstreet felt joyful that God would always be on her side. Both poems have similarities and differences in themes, use of words, and topics.
Not only both authors wrote different poems, the have different styles. For example,Cruz wrote in a rhyme scheme, while Bradstreet wrote a sonnet type of poem. This shows that with different styles, you could get different point of views on the same goals. In addition, Cruz and Bradstreet talk about different topics. Happiness is what you would get of Cruz's poem. And worship is what you get out of Bradstreet's poem. With different styles and topics, it could expand your thoughts of poems.
The poems had their differences, but they had their similarities. Both authors use key words to get the readers attention focused on the theme. For example, Sor Juana uses the words " world in hounding me, what do you gain". This shows that Sor Juana wants you to know she is being nagged on for what purpose. In Bradstreet's poem, she uses the words "To God my heart did cry". This shows her faith and belief in God. In addition, in both poems the authors have overcame their hardships Sor Juana knows that she has to be happy, even though she is not getting what she wants out of the world, respect. In Bradstreet's poem, she overcomes a loss in the fire by gaining faith in God. The authors gave good key words to lead the reader on how they overcame their hardships.
If you want to get two views from happiness, Sor Juana and Bradstreet showed similarities and differences. In Bradstreet, while losing her house, she put her Puritan beliefs and thoughts about the positives instead of the negatives. In Sor Juana's poem, nothing could bring her down. She wanted to leave earth with no problems but to be just happy. Even though poems have different styles and titles, they have the same concept, to provide the theme in a certain way.
