The Literature of the New World:
Quote 1: " In carrying out this Enterprise of the Indies, neither reason, nor mathematics nor maps were any use to me: fully accomplished were the words of Isaiah."
* My meaning I picked this quote was because I thought that what they said was really interesting. This quote actually came from the Bible and I think it's really valuable.
Quote 2: " when discovered it [ America ] was not wanted, and most of the exploration for the next 50 years was done in the hope of getting through or around it."
* My meaning in picking this quote was because I never really thought about something being found and also not wanted. It's a very interesting fact for me to know about.
High School Students Hate History
Quote 1: " African American, Native Americans, and Latino students view history with a special dislike."
* I think this is a very interesting fact because now that I know and think about it I realize how true it is.
Quote 2: " Textbooks exclude conflict or real suspense. They leave out anything that reflect badly upon our national character."
* I think this is so true because textbooks only give the main idea of what happen but they do not really explain the whole story.

The Discoveries of America-
1. "...Columbus insisted on calling the people of he found there Indians, as though they were people of the Near East he had sailed wet to find. Columbus discovered America, but not its people." This article really disturbs ma, and makes me question Columbus' character. He did not value the people of this new world, as he puts it. He just took over and did not give a damn.
2. "...stereotypes have dominated the nation's view of Native Americans: naked, mysterious, gullible creatures..." This is a ridiculous stereotype of the Natives. If Columbus and his people genuinely tried to get to know them there would not be these ignorant stereotypes of the Natives.
High School Students Hate History-
1."We need to know our history, and according to C. Wright Mills, we know we do." This quote caught my attention because of the author that was cited. C. Wright Mills. Also it is also true that we should know our past and our history.
2. “Textbooks exclude conflict or real suspense. They leave out anything that might reflect badly upon our national character.” This statement is one of the most true statement that I have every heard. Most textbooks, especially history, has bias opinions because they just want to look good in the eyes of the citizen and other who read the textbook.
New World Literature Packet
“…beheld a world that was excitingly and inexhaustibly new. The inescapable fact of that newness may be what is most essentially American about American literature.”
What it is saying is that America is diverse by nature and will always be looked upon differently by different people. America was, and still is, a new experience and discovery for those who have experienced it; and that’s what makes America, America.

“African American, Native American, and Latino students view history with a special dislike.”
Why does it single out African American, Native American, and Latino students but later it says “minorities”? Just wondering. Anyways, I particularly do not like history because I flat out think it’s useless and should only be learned if one wants to learn it.
High School Students Hate History-
"Whether one deems our present society wondrous or awful or both, history reveals how we arrived at this point."
No matter your views on history, you can't help but be affected by it because without what happened before, we wouldn't be where we are now.
Literature of the New World-
"America, as Thoreau reminds us in The Maine Woods, always seems in the process of being discovered."
I think that no matter how well you think that you know something, there will always be something new to learn. Everything is constantly changing so there is no possible way not to learn.
In the Literature of the New World i picked the quote: "I think what we have seen of these people with our own eyes surpasses not only the pictures with which poets have illustrated the golden age, and all their attempts to draw mankind in the state of happiness" This quote shows that when the Europeans saw this land they could not imagine how great is was to see a world unaffected by mankind.
My second quote for High School Students Hate History is: "History cab be looked a pyramid. At base is its primary sources, secondary works on top, and third textbooks."
This quote is like a rumor, if you played the telephone game, once you say something it changes, as does with primary sources as they are interpreted.
"Survival in the wilderness"
*I think that this comment relates to me because it relates to all of us. Without survival skills we wouldn't last a day in this world. It's only natural that we do have them though.
"Minorities aren't able to do mathematics as well as some white students."
*I believe that this comment is untrue and partly biased because everyone has the right to learn how to do something well.
African American, Native American, and Latino students view history with a special dislike.
Nonwhite students do worse in English and most worse in history.
My opinion about the first statement, I believe that it is a very stereotypical statement and it was written with a degree of racism. In my opinion, this is not true. It's not about the color or race of one being.
For the second statement, I would say it is also false, and also racist. It is not about the color of skin that determines what subject you will pass in school. It's about the person itself and in general.
