I like this quote because in high school or middle school, they don't tell every one history only the white as if they are the only one that lived in the U.S.A, we mostly don't take a look at the history book because we all know that is all about the white man, how the defeat this people took over, how the threat others to gain contro, how the started slavery, and how the become so powerful, only the white did the work no one else did, from me I think it is wrong that we don't take alook at our own history you know, all most Africa American know depending on history is that we were slave we did not do anything to help build what is now know as the United State of America, all we know is that we are bad influences in the countries no matter where you go, we are the terrible people, we make the U.S.A look bad to me this is unfair to not have our own history in the history book, you know the good stuff is what we don't have, but we have all the bad stuff, I though this country was build by all kind of different people that came together to create one country, it does not mean only white people did everything to make up the United States of America. It will be better deep down if we try our very best to have our own history including others history in the history book, or if that does not work we can go research them online, the library and other places that you can research your own history, just like if we can get anything we want and we can make it happen, we can also research our own history. Nothing is impossible, everything is posible, you just never doubt yourself about it. We can make anything happen for us, anything that we can happen for us. To me the white man, needs to be fair with others, everyone in this country in general, being social and understanding one another, being cooperative, being unify and all the good stuff, thats what it should be like.

"Don't like social studies"
- be more specfic
- reasons why people don't like soical studies.
-who don't like soical studies.
This quote could have been more thought outand elaborated on more.

"Take a look at your hisory book, and you'll see why we should be proud"
-look at your history
-see what your anectors had to go through
-be glad we are not still in those days of slavery
this quote is telling people that they should be glad they don't have go through what their ancestors went through just to make it here.

"Whether one deems our present society wondrous or awful or both, history reveals how we arrived at this point."
-I see this statement as true. Without knowledge of our history, it is impossible to understand how we have accomplished the things we have accomplished as a society. This qoute basically means that history is important for everyone even the people who don't like it. It contains the identity of our society.
"Understanding our past is central to our ability to understand ourselves and the world around us."
-Like i said before, our past or history is apart of our identity. it shows us how much we can accomplish as people and how much we can overcome. If we didn't know our past we wouldn't know any culture, in fact culture would cease to exist. And a world without culture is a world of nothing, of monotony.J3ss3james

1st:"African American, Native American, and Latino students view history with a special dislike."- I think they dislike it because their culture isn't viewed or expressed in the History textbooks, it's from a white mans point of view.
2nd:"Students consider history "the most irrelevant" of twenty one subjects commonly taught in high school"- I believe this is an opinion that can vary, because without history were would we be today, it might bore us sometimes but it's very relevant.

" Many teachers percieve low moral in their classrooms"
I believe that this quote is to be true because i think most teachers think that most students aren't willing to learn history because it so called "boring"

"Most authors of history text books don't even try for melodrama. Instead, they write inj a tone that if heard aloud might be described as "mumbling lecture." No wonder students lose i
intrest."
i believe that this qoute is really great because the fact that who ever wrote the books want the reader to be involved, but the reader won't be involved because of the fact that the reading is so boring therefore the authors of text books should make it more apealing to the reader.

"understanding our past is central to ability to understand ourselves"
We must know our past to understand our future, because without or past we would not have a future to embrace...Example:
If i was never born then I would not type this homework.
It is important to know where you come from and to understand it in a deeper level.

"history text books get boring after 800 pages"
history tends to get boring when you sit there and listen about someone Else's history and not yours plus the text is boring also there is no pictures....Example:
If your bored then you need to place you self in that era in that location
It is vital that you stay entertained with your history to matain a connection with the past.

"College teachers in most disciplines are happy when their students have had significant exposure to the subject before college. Not Teachersw in history." The first sentence of the quote literally speaks for itself, as most sentence in general do, but there are a fewq implication that the second statement describes. The sentence obviously states that history teachers are not pleased when thier students have taken prior history classes. The reason for this is stated further along in the paragraoph that this was quoted from. It is because history is taught inapropriately in high school.

"Textbooks almost never use the present to illistrate the past." "The present is not a source of information for wriers of history textbooks." I used two quotes for my second example, and I did so because they have a great deal in common, and go hand in hand in answering the question they promote, without answering it. Because the individuals who write history books do not illistrate the effects that the pst has had on the present, it does a very poor job of illuminating the past. It would do a great deal in capturing readers attention if the textbooks would begin doing this.
