1. View the PowerPoint presentation by clicking the link.
2. Take notes on the most important parts of the presentation. Order your notes by slides and slide titles.
3. Be ready to take a quiz in class.
4. Complete the Prompt Worksheet by following the steps in the powerpoint. (if you cannot print it out then you can hand write it)

Period 3
Write down 3 appeals to support your point of view on the issue you wrote about in Quickwrite on pg. 208.
For Example: Dress code ----
  • choose whether you are for it or against it.
  • Write a logical, ethical, emotional appeal to support your point of view

You will be presenting these arguments in class tomorrow and the class will decide if your appeal was convincing enough. :) (you will get participation points for this part)

2. Create an outline for the following prompt.

NOTE: The prompt below will be posted for a limited time only for those of you that care about your homework. The majority of the class walked out without a care about what their homework was. Therefore, in order to merit those that took the time to write it down BUT to not be entirely unfair, the prompt will be visible for approximately 4 hours. It will be coming down at 7 pm.

Prompt: Knowing what you know about Dickinson and Whitman's style, what do you think is the effect it has on the overall meaning of their poetry. Select a poem that backs up your analysis and give textual evidence (quotations not just line references).

1. Do an Internet search for Emily Dickinson poems and read at least 3 of them.
Write down the titles (they do not have formal titles, so use the first line as the title) of all three and then choose a favorite one, explain why it's your favorite and give me one comment regarding the style of the poem.

Read the civil disobedience packet and answer questions on the margins.

1. Post vocab sentences
2. Create a venn diagram to compare and contrast Whitman and Dickinson's poems. You should try to focus on specific aspects of the poems like: style, tone, diction, audience, theme, rhyme, etc.
Write a paragraph or two in which you present the points in your venn diagram in paragraph form (A literary analysis excerpt)

Period 3
1. Reread Self-Reliance and write down two real life examples in which you think you could apply Emerson's words.
2. Explain the examples in details and explain why you think that his words would work in that situation. You should also try to add why you think it is valuable information or do you agree or disagree with his opinion.
