- How do you feel about this type of testing? What do you like least or most about it?

- If you did not take it tell me why you decided to not to take it and what you plan to do with your life. Why are you not intending on attending a 4 year university after high school?

1. Begin working on the rough draft of your essay. I may email, those of you whose email I actually have, if I see that you are way off on your thesis. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

2. I am also posting a link to the Transition worksheet since we were unable to make copies of it. You should use these phrases in order to make connect your ideas and to make your essay flow.

Period 3
Write at least half page telling me everything you know or believe about the devil. What role does he play in most people's lives? What do you suppose he looks like or acts like? Where do you think you got those ideas from? Do you think that he represents any human qualities or is intended to symbolize humans in any way?

Homework 3/9/09

Period 1
1. Read the prompt and outline sheet.
a. Underline any information that you must focus on in your prompt.
b. Use the graphic organizer to sort your ideas. Fill in the argument and your supporting ideas.
2. Fill out the outline template.
I know that there isn't much space, but remember that an outline is just the skeleton of your essay. When you begin writing, you begin to add the meat. Therefore, just include the main stuff.
Concrete Details (CD) are facts and points that are not your opinion.
Commentary Details (CM) are statements that support your facts or points and are generally your opinion.

Period 3
Write a 1/2 page response that summarizes and gives me your opinion on the presenters and the issues that they discussed. Tell me what we have read in our class or discussed in our English class that may somehow relate to the points they were making. Tell me whether you think that your teachers try to be socially just. Explain your answer.
If you were to become involved in supporting some type of revolutionary movement or cause what type of issue would you be inclined to be involved with?

1. Look through "Resistance of Civil Government" and choose your favorite quote from the text. Write a paragraph explanation as to why it is your favorite part.
2. Study for Vocab Quiz
3. Begin writing an introduction paragraph or an outline for your essay.

1. Write the "mini-essay" that discusses the similarities between W.Ws works or ideas and Langston Hughes' "I too" that were discussed in class.

  • If you were absent you must see a classmate for the prompt, outline and expectations.
  • The assignment should be typed and approximately 1-2 pages double spaced.

1. Reread the Song of Myself 33 on pg. 316-317 and define the words that were circled in class. Do not copy and paste definitions of words. They should be paraphrased into your own words.
2. Draw a picture for each of the scenarios that Whitman discusses in the poem. (For example, the first one includes a skipper on a boat therefore draw a picture using his description of the event or person.)
